    Club Accord October 2002

Our guest for October at Cub Accord was Dierdre Adamson from Scotland. It is probably 10 years since we last had Dierdre to play for us, so we looked forward with pleasure to hearing her play again. We were not disappointed, the music flowed nicely and what a variety there was too, Scottish tunes, French tunes, and tangos too, it certainly had everyone's feet tapping.

Andy got the evening off to a start with a few folk tunes and next was Neil who played a nice selection of Scottish tunes and Marches. Then it was Dierdres turn, she began with "Blaze Away" and the "Bonnie Glen Song". These were followed by the "Lock Tar Boat Song" and Bonnie Glenfarg" and a French musette "Les Troillets". Next was a set of reels "Dirk Kramar", "Willie Anderson's Farewell to Glenarn",  and "Gordon Young". Then a nice change of tempo for a lovely slow air "Lonely Glencoe", which led into a couple of Marches "Moving Cloud" and "Glencoe March". Dierdre also explained about the different types of Scottish Marches which come in a wide variety of time signatures from "Murdo McKenyie of Torridan" in 6/8 to "The March of Beaumont Hanimel" in 2/4 and others even in 3/4. She ended the first half with "Kerrerar Polka", the tango "El Chocolo" and the "Cuckoo Waltz".

Nancy was first to play in the second half of the evening with "Night and Day", then she asked us to imagine we were at the seaside listening to the waves as she played a lovely "Ocean Waves". Nancy followed these with "Hold that Tiger", "Crazy Rhythm" and "I've got Rhythm", finishing with "China Town" and a very nice "Misty".

Dierdre returned to play a set of Irish Jigs and then the "Whitley Chapel Barn Dance". These were followed by the ever popular "Margaret's Waltz" and a lively "Clarinet Polka". A change of style again gave us the "Crags of Tumbledown Mountain" and a few Scottish Songs. The continental "Valse Jo" led us into a set of lively Jigs and was followed by her penultimate number "Rise of Kelvin Rose". Dierdre ended the evening with a popular piece "Teddy Bear's Picnic".

All in all a very enjoyable evening. Next month is the AGM (which we shall endeavour to get over quickly), and Club night, we hope to see you all there

Tracey would like to thank the committee for their work during the last year.
