    Club Accord May 2002 Newsletter

Our May meeting was an ordinary club night and it was good to see 30 or more members. Nancy was our first member to play, accompanied by Paul on his Harmonica. They began with a blue theme - "Blue Skies", "Blue Heaven", and "Blue Moon", followed by "Summertime". After this came "Georgia", "Moonlight Serenade" and they finished with "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera.

Charles, our youngest member, was next to play and he began with a difficult "Whistling Rufus", then "Amazing Grace", "Under the Bridges of Paris", and "Red River Valley". We like to encourage Charles as he is improving all the time, he continued with "David in the Glen", "When I grow to Old to Dream", and ended with "Ein Zwei Super".

Andy played a nice selection of folk tunes, and Erica ended the first half with a lovely "Sunrise Sunset" from Fiddler on the Roof., "Drink to me only" and then sang and played "Edelweiss", which had everyone smiling and finished with a Chinese folk song.

After the Interval Neil started with "The Tapwood Polka", "The Bees Wing", and "Blaydon Flats", followed by a nice selection of songs from the 'New Seekers', and ended with a March , a Strathspey and a set of Scottish Reels.

Terry accompanied by Graham on drums was our next member. Terry's music is always very entertaining, it flows so naturally. She began with "Whispering", "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "Don't Bring Lulu", then a change of tempo to play a few tangos such as "Jealousy". She was then requested to play "Mambo Italiano" and followed this with some popular songs and one or two classics from her native home of Vienna.

Our last member of the evening was our chairman Tracey, who played five or six sets of lovely lively and bright folk reels, jigs and hornpipes from England, Scotland and America. These included "Butterfly and the Bee", "Ali's Allemand", "Devil Among the Tailors", "Timour the Tartar" and "Cherokee Shuffle".
