    Club Accord August 2002 Newsletter

Club Accord gives a warm welcome to everyone who likes to drop in on Club nights to listen to accordions being played, usually the comment is "I haven't heard an Accordion for years", and we say, "Well we've been here in this particular location for 6 years now, and I'm sure with the noise we make you certainly could not miss us". At our August club night we had a lot of listeners, some visitors and some players, and even though a few regulars were on holiday we still had over 30 members, friends and guests.

The theme for the night was songs from the World Wars, and Terry began with "Pack Up Your Troubles", "Wish Me Luck" and "Whistle While You Work", then over to the U.S.A for "Sentimental Journey", next to Germany and Russia for, "By Mir Bist Du Sheel", "The Panzer Song" and "My Moscow Katjuska". Andy played a few English folk songs i.e "Log Cabin" etc. Tracey kept the music flowing with a lovely (and long) selection of tunes which included "Bambola", "Lady Marguerita", "Nikita", a tango and "Piccarta March" as well as Patchwork Polka. She rounded them off with a nice "Chattanooga Choo Choo" and "Who's Taking You Home Tonight?".

Neil changed the tempo with a few Scottish Songs, some WWII pipe tunes, then a Swiss Polka and "Springtime in Switzerland", and a set of hornpipes. Erica's turn to entertain us gave us something quite different, she sang "Lily Marlene", "As Time Goes By" and "We'll Meet Again", and ended by playing a Chinese folk tune. Gary was next up and soon had everyone singing with "Hang Out the Washing On The Siegfried Line", "Tipperary", "Dashing White Sergeant", and many many more 1940's songs, too many to remember.

The evening ended with Tracey, Terry, Neil, Frazer, Andy, Gary and Graham with a mass busk of popular songs. Another very good night.
