Club Accord April 2002 Newsletter Karen plays a Guiletti free bass/stradella combined accordion. She began with a piece she wrote for her 40th Birthday, and followed it with "Zindarella" arranged by Dante. A French musette was next and then another tune written by herself which was inspired by Piazzola who transformed the Tango with the use of descending bass lines. She changed the style again and her next tune was a Jazz style piece called "My Romance", and then another piece written by Karen for her two children. A change of tempo gave us Stevie Wonders song "Isn't She Lovely" and ended the first half with the "Carnival of Venice". During the interval we held the raffle, thank you to anyone who donated a prize, and our long time member, Len Dicks, won the attendant member award of £4. Tracey announced that Barbara had been in hospital with a chest infection but was now home, and if anyone would like to visit her then they would be very welcome. After the interval a few members played for us, Erica was first with a Chinese folk tune and then she played the "Four Seasons" theme. Neil followed with the "Shetlands Fisherman's Backstep", "The March of Strathspey", two reels and two sets of hornpipes. Nancy came next with "Jesus Christ Superstar" medley, then "Argentina", and a very nice "Phantom of the Opera" selection. Andy played a few folk tunes including "Star of the Count Down" and "Still I Love Him". Tracey then managed to persuade Gary and George to form a duet (on borrowed accordions), and they played "Spanish Eyes" amongst others. The second half began with Karen playing "The Surrey with the Fringe on Top", a nice Judy Garland song. A nice rhythmical version of "Tico Tico" followed and then came a selection from "42nd Street". A change of style gave us a slow Jazz number called "Ever After" and then her own composition called "A Trip to Bermuda". Karen ended her evening with the "Donkey Serenade". For an encore Karen asked Nancy to join her to play a few tunes and finished with "Bye Bye Blackbird". It turned out to be a very nice evening. Our next guest night is June
with Johnny Lee Leslie and in September we have Steve Pacitto.
